Since December 1993, Folgate has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Stuttgart-based financial services group Württembergische AG. In July 1999, Württembergische completed a merger of equals with the Wüstenrot Financial Services Group. Together they formed Wüstenrot & Württembergische AG Financial Services Group.

Over the past two years, Folgate has undergone radical change, both in terms of business mix and management structure. Folgate is a committed broker-only insurer supporting insurance brokers, intermediaries and independent financial advisers. Biography:
Chris Garland joined Folgate in 1977 after a 10-year career with a top London Lloyd's insurer. His first appointment was underwriting and managing director of the city office until 1992, when he was appointed general manager at head office in Poole.
Garland has overseen the transformation of Folgate from a small provincial insurer to a bigger player in the broker and schemes market. In 1996, he was promoted to managing director
