Insurer quotes just over £1m worth of premium at commercial lines surgeries

Broker perspective

Ageas has gone ‘back to basics’ with the first in a series of face to face commercial lines underwriting surgeries for brokers.

The three pilot underwriting surgeries, which are being targeted at brokers serving the SME and fleet sectors, took place in March at Ageas’ underwriting centres in Manchester, London and Gloucester.

Over 35 brokers attended the events and more than £1m in premium was quoted across the three locations.

Manually traded SME and Fleet insurance covers were placed on the spot and Ageas demonstrated its digitally processed Optima Small Fleet.

The surgeries are designed to give traders from regional broker markets a face to face opportunity to discuss specific policy covers with Ageas’ commercial underwriting team.

They also gave Ageas the chance to showcase to the brokers the scope of its commercial covers.

Cathy Taylor, Head of Commercial Underwriting and Operations at Ageas added: “The Underwriting Surgeries are a ‘back to basics’ approach, allowing us to work with our brokers on a more personal basis.

“There is certainly an appetite for this level of support in the broking community and we intend to make this a regular feature of our Commercial calendar.
