Insurer to make 'sensible' compensation offers to 34 claimants

Thirty-four people have made claims against Allianz Cornhill relating to the 11 May explosion at ICL Plastics in the Maryhill region of Glasgow.

The insurer said it would process the claims as quickly as possible despite still not knowing the cause of the blast.

The claimants include the relatives of the nine people killed in the explosion, as well as the 17 people who were left seriously injured.

Allianz Cornhill divisional claims manager Roy Hebburn said: "I can confirm that we have had 34 claims to date and that we are processing these claims on a sensible basis, as the employees are innocent victims.

"It will be some time before the cause of the explosion can be established, but that won't prevent us from proceeding with sensible compensation offers."

In May Allianz Cornhill said its exposure to the blast could be in the "double figure millions".
