Maven Public Sector to underwrite for local authorities, police and fire services

Aon has launched a managing general agent for the public sector.

Maven Public Sector will write property, casualty and financial and motor business for local authorities, police and fire and rescue services.

Aon said it was backed by carefully selected A-rated insurers and that the new capacity would bring public sector organisations more choice in the form of new policy wordings and embedded claims management.

Maven is headed by managing director John Shaftoe, who joined Aon last year as public sector director. Shaftoe has more than 35 years experience in the UK public sector market having worked at Zurich Municipal and as founding director of specialist broker Risk Management Partners.

He said: “I am delighted to have put together a strong team to launch Maven Public Sector as a dedicated player in this sector.  Establishing a new insurance solution will create additional choice for public sector organisations and bring much needed new capacity in this sector.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
