New hire marks Ascot’s entry into casualty reinsurance

AIG-owned Lloyd’s insurer Ascot has hired former Barbican active underwriter John Pilkington as head of casualty.

He will begin his new role on 4 February.

While at Barbican, Pilkington was active underwriter for Syndicate 1955, the company’s main Lloyd’s underwriting operation.

Ascot chief underwriting officer Andrew Brooks said: “I am delighted that John is joining Ascot to head up our casualty business. John’s wealth of experience, skillset and successful track record will allow Ascot to offer its clients underwriting expertise in this complex class.

“Our move into casualty represents a shift in our risk appetite that links to our five-year plan. The initial focus will be on casualty reinsurance, but we will be able to write all lines as market conditions dictate.”

Pilkington added: “I’m pleased to be joining Ascot at such an important stage of their strategic development. Launching and developing Ascot’s casualty business presents me with a new and exciting challenge in a dynamic and ambitious business. I am very much looking forward to my future with them.”
