Barbican replaces departed active underwriter a year on

Lloyd’s insurer Barbican has named a new active underwriter for its Lloyd’s syndicate a year after the departure of the previous one.

David Booth has been promoted to active underwriter of Syndicate 1955, filling a role vacated by John Pilkington back in November 2012.

Pilkington joined AIG-owned Lloyd’s insurer Ascot as head of casualty in January this year.

Barbican’s group chief underwriting officer Mark Harrington has filled in as interim active underwriter of the syndicate since Pilkington’s departure last year.

Booth will take up the active underwriter role on 1 January next year. He will also keep his current position as head of marine, aviation and transport.

He will report to Barbican Managing Agency’s managing director Ken Curtis.

Booth joined Barbican in 2008. He was previously business unit manager at Endurance Worldwide Insurance, managing the firm’s specialty underwriting department.

“During the past five years, his considerable experience, extensive industry insight and outstanding market reputation have enabled him and his team to achieve significant growth in our marine, aviation and transport unit, creating an extremely diverse, global book of business.
