Ash Bathia’s Lloyd’s syndicate, Probitas 1492, has hired Neila Buurman as chief underwriting officer for its casualty division.

Buurman was previously director of international casualty at QBE, Bathia’s former employer.

She joined QBE in 2000 as an international liability underwriter.

Bathia was chief underwriting officer of property, casualty and motor at QBE before his departure in July 2013.

He launched Probitas, where he is chief executive, last year.

Bathia said: “I have known Neila for a long time and have no doubt that she will lead our casualty team to great success.

“She brings with her a unique combination of exceptional leadership skills, underwriting and technical expertise and experience and, importantly, an open-minded approach that differentiates Probitas within the marketplace.”
