Insurer could also cut dividend

Mark Wilson, Aviva

Aviva will make a loss of more than £3bn when it reports its results on Thursday, the Sunday Times reported.

The losses have been caused by the company’s restructuring, which has seen it sell or exit divisions it deems non-core in a bid to improve its financial strength.

The results are expected to show that the sale of Aviva’s US life business alone has resulted in a £3.2bn write-down.

The company could also cut its dividend, the paper warned. Such a move could prove unpopular with investors. Stockbroker Investec warned in January that a dividend cut could risk “alienating many shareholders”.
