Biba raised this letter with AXA at the highest level, some weeks ago, and has received an unreserved apology.

The letter was inappropriate, inaccurate and damaging to its intermediary division. AXA is not the only large composite insurer with direct and intermediated divisions that has engaged with inappropriate marketing in an attempt to promote direct commercial business.

One of Biba’s members, who received a similar letter from another insurer, tried to obtain quotations for a number of its clients but either received no quote or an inadequate response.

But no doubt we will continue to see direct writers trying to further commoditise the sector. It’s about time insurers realised that this segment is one that requires advice and the services of a broker.
