AXA Assistance UK has appointed Adam Smith as sales director.

Smith, who joins from Legal & General Insurance, will focus on growing the company’s large corporate partnerships business and will have direct responsibility for building new partnerships with large corporate clients across its motor, legal and home assistance business lines.

AXA Assistance has continued to experience sustained growth across these key areas and, as a result of the success of its property assistance service and new excess insurance product, expects to deliver double digit growth this year.

AXA Assistance sales and marketing director Kelly Ward said: “Adam’s combination of proven sales management skills and his multi-channel distribution experience in financial services will play an important part in our strategy to offer added value products and diversity in the customer propositions of existing and new corporate partners.”

Smith said: “AXA Assistance is recognised for its market leading assistance products and high quality service proposition. The company understands the importance of aligning its solutions to meet the needs of large corporate businesses and their customers. It is an exciting time to join the company as it focuses on enhancing its capabilities to actively build on its successes and grow this important customer base.”

Smith was head of intermediary accounts at Legal & General with responsibility for the management of the insurer’s combined general insurance broker and financial intermediary distribution.

Prior to that, he held a number of senior sales and business development management roles working across the intermediary, branch and direct distribution channels of Northern Rock. He has also held sales roles within Barclays Bank and First National Bank.

He began his career as a life underwriter with Britannic Assurance before moving into general insurance, taking a role as an account executive with A-Plan Insurance Group.
