But insurers claim they are not liable for BP’s clean-up costs

BP is suing Transocean, owner of the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico, over a £470m insurance claim, This is Money reports.

BP has given notice that it intends to claim £470m against the Transocean insurance policy for its part in the oil rig disaster.

But Transocean’s insurers have filed a lawsuit asking for a declaration that they have no obligation to cover BP, against damage and clean-up costs.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
