Brit said its pre-tax profits for the full year would be reduced by £35m due to hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne and typhoon Songda.
The announcement came after Kiln told the markets today it had been hit by between £10m and £15m by this year's hurricane season.
Brit added: "Underwriting conditions in other classes remain positive. We expect new business opportunities and a firmer rating environment as a consequence of these events."
