Brokers can sell policies again in the new year

Bupa is set to offer brokers commission for selling individual private medical insurance in the new year after closing its intermediated business to brokers last year, according to Health Insurance Daily.

Brokers can currently only earn a referral fee from Bupa for introducing a policyholder to the health insurer for non-corporate or non-SME business.

However, this decision has now been reversed and brokers can restart selling policies and earning commission on individual policies from the first quarter of 2014.

Bupe Health Funding sales director Tony Wood said the insurer had been consulting with distributors about finding a solution that “works for customers, intermediaries and Bupa”.

Wood added: “We are very excited by this new step and are passionate about working with intermediaries in all areas of health-related benefits.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
