Captain Andrew Cross has been appointed as Lloyd's new London-based Inspector of Agencies with a brief to maintain and monitor the standards of agents around the world.

He previously spent seven years as a claims executive with Michael Else & Company.

He has also been superintendent for Unicorn Lines and has run a ship agency and marine surveying firm in South Africa.

Cross said he was excited about the new role, which fulfilled one of his long-held ambitions, as Lloyd's is seen as the centre of the marine insurance market.

Lloyd's agencies controller Sonja Fink said: “His familiarity with the work required of Lloyd's agents, together with his knowledge of the shipping and insurance industry, make him a valuable addition to the agency team.”
