CGU AND Norwich Union have named their key managers for the UK general insurance business of CGNU – providing the merger goes ahead.

Seven of the 11 designated appointments are currently NU executives, reflecting its role as the lead insurer for general insurance in the new combined company, (CGNU's general insurance products will be promoted under the NU brand).

The appointments are:

  • John Ainley, HR director (currently NU).
  • Ken Applegate, Integration director (NU).
  • Bryan Jenkins, Retail business director (NU).
  • Simon Machell, Claims director (NU).
  • Igal Mayer, Finance director (CGU).
  • Bridget McIntyre, Underwriting director (NU).
  • Bob Newton, Corporate partnerships director (CGU).
  • Cathryn Riley, Operations director (CGU).
  • Alex Robinson, IT director (NU).
  • Ken Wallace, Intermediary business director (NU).
  • Clive Watson, London markets director (CGU).

    The plan is for this second tier of managers to report directly to Patrick Snowball, managing director designate of CGNU's combined general insurance business.

    The appointments, he stressed, have been announced so the insurers can begin the next stage of the integration process. He said: "At this stage, we can give very little detail about the new-look combined business, but we can begin to develop the combined product range and ensure the integration will be as efficient and speedy as possible."
