New role for former UK chief Lex Baugh in reshuffle

AIG-owned insurance group Chartis has divided itself into three regional segments: The Americas, Asia and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

“As Chartis continues to evolve as a company, we are deploying our global resources in a manner that will create a more efficient regional framework to improve delivery of our insurance solutions and add value for our customers,” Chartis chief executive Peter Hancock said in a statement.

Under the new structure, Robert Schimek has been named chief executive of the EMEA division. He has been Chartis’s chief financial officer for the past six years. Schimek’s old role will be assumed by deputy chief financial officer James Bracken.

Former UK chief executive Lex Baugh, who became Chartis’s Europe chief executive during 2010’s restructuring, will become chief risk officer and head of strategic planning.

US and Canada chief executive Peter Eastwood will be responsible for the Americas region and Jose Hernandez will run the Asia unit.

“This simplified structure will permit closer co-ordination of the regions with the commercial and consumer teams, and it will allow us to put greater emphasis on growth economy nations by aligning them under our top regional executives,” Hancock said.
