Loss adjuster Miller Fisher is investigating a fire which broke out at St Michael and All Angels Roman Catholic Church near Portsmouth, after a bolt of lightning hit a cross on the roof shortly after morning Mass.

Although there were no injuries, damage to the building was severe and included the destruction of the £100,000 church organ.

Gordon Colbourne, regional surveyor for the Miller Fisher team handling the claim, currently estimates the total value of the claim to stand at approximately £2m.

The building was insured by Catholic National Mutual. Miller Fisher is now working with the insurer to restore utility services to the church hall, which was undamaged.
