French car manufacturer first to offer ‘black box’ technology as standard

Citroën is fitting its C1 Connexion special edition model with a telematics ‘black box’ device as standard in a bid to reduce the cost for younger drivers owning and insuring a new car.

The car manufacturer has teamed up with Trafficmaster, which supplies its Smartnav system, to give a fully integrated solution straight from the showroom.

The company is offering a year’s free insurance to all eligible drivers who must have a two years’ no claims discount (NCD), or heavily discounted cover for drivers with zero or just one year’s NCD.

Renewal premiums will be based on the driving behaviour over the first 12 months of ownership, so good driving habits will be rewarded with lower insurance premiums in subsequent years regardless of age.

The manufacturer is expecting a high demand as a result of the new technology and has increased production of its C1 Connexion model by 750 units for this year.
