Allianz Cornhill aims to raise its claims handling standards with the launch of its 'excellence in claims' programme.

The CII-accredited scheme will concentrate on both technical and human skills, from induction to training.

Director of claims Jon Dye said: "We view the claims department as the area that provides the product to the customer. It is essential to what we are all about to have highly-skilled people in our business."

The process will start over the next six or seven weeks when the training needs of all frontline staff will be determined.

The results will form the basis for training in 26 technical modules and a range of 'soft' skills including negotiation, communication and letter writing.

Dye said: ""Excellence in claims represents a significant investment in the training and development of staff."
