Broker Clear Insurance Management has bought specialist commercial broker Emson Corporate Services.

The acquisition, Clear’s 19th buy since its formation in 2001, means Clear now controls gross written premium (GWP) in excess of £70m.

Emson, which controls more than £8m, will continue to be led by the senior management team of Graham Davies, Brian Smallcorn and Nick Smallcorn and will shortly move to Clear’s main office in London.

Emson started operating in the 1930s and has a particular strength in construction and property owners business.

Clear chief executive Howard Lickens said: “Emson Corporate Services is a great fit for Clear.

“The business has real expertise in the construction space, which will enhance our own capability for operating in niche markets. We will continue to seek further acquisition opportunities in 2016, being interested in brokers which match our vision and culture.”

Emson’s Davies added: “Joining forces with Clear Insurance will enable us to further develop our business and provide a great career path for our staff. We already have a strong credibility in the construction industry, having traded in the area for many years, and now our clients will also benefit from Clear’s wider offering and expertise.”
