What he does:
Tiner is responsible for consumers, investments and insurance. He assumed this position at the beginning of June. These responsibilities include the regulation of more than 8,000 authorised firms in the insurance and investment market, covering both prudential and conduct of business regulation, and spearheading FSA consumer-facing activities.

Background
He was previously managing partner of Andersen's Global Financial Services Industry. John has specialised in the Financial Services sector for more than 20 years and has worked with banking, asset management and insurance companies throughout Europe, the US and Asia. He joined Andersen in 1976 and in 1997 became head of Arthur Andersen's worldwide financial services industry practice.

In 1996, he led the Bank of England's review of banking supervision in the UK and has been president of the Management Consultancies Association.

Peter Casey

Casey is responsible for the supervision of non-life insurers and associated firms, including Lloyd's and Lloyd's underwriting agents.

Background
He began his career in the Science Research Council and transferred to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in 1980. There he held a range of posts which have included responsibilities for finance, the aeroengine industry, information technology, major project exports and coal policy. He also spent periods on loan to the Cabinet Office and the Office of Fair Trading. He joined the Insurance Directorate of DTI in 1997. He transferred to the Treasury in 1998 and to the FSA at the beginning of 1999.

Martin Roberts

He is responsible for prudential and conduct of business regulation of insurance firms.

Background
Roberts was previously Treasury insurance director from February 1998. He is also chairman of the Friendly Societies Division.

Most of Roberts' career has been in the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), with short secondments to the Department of Energy (in 1974); the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (1979-1982); the Department of the Environment (1984-85) and the Treasury in 1998. At the DTI he was responsible for the supervision of life insurance and London Market business. He became DTI finance and resource management director in 1992. He took up his present post on 1 January 1999.
