Soccer coach...

I have been the Hon Sec (which means I do all the work!) of Chase Side Youth Football club for over 10 years. We are based in North London and provide organised, competitive football for circa 175 local youth every weekend during the season and then every May take the "little darlings" on football tour to Pontins in Norfolk or the South Coast. Catherine, my wife and partner for over 25 years came on the first tour and has not been back since; and she's from Glasgow!

I am passionate about providing kids, some of which who lack real parental interest or direction, an opportunity to enjoy the experience of competing to win, working within a team structure and staying fit and healthy.

Under achiever...

I have two other siblings who are CEOs of their organisations. Dominic is group CEO of JLT and Rebecca is CEO of a Primary Care Trust within the NHS. I used to get teased for being the under achiever and it was with some sense of relief when Ian Muress (my boss) took pity on me and promoted me to CEO of Crawford UK at the beginning of 2008.

Gym belly...

Those who know me best will know that I am not a natural born athlete. Keith (my best friend) and I joined a gym a year ago and we attend regularly together. We have both put on a stone since we became members. They do an excellent toastie and a pint of Guinness, which of course we deserve after 15 mins in the gym or do I mean sauna!

The kids...

I have a lovely daughter Rebecca who is in her first year studying medicine at Saint John's College, Cambridge. I tell everyone she gets her good looks and intelligence from me and her ability to spend and to moan from her mother! I know that is politically incorrect but its true, that is what I tell everyone!

She called me at work in her first month there to say how pleased she was to get her own cadaver. I had no idea what she was talking about but did not want to appear stupid so "blagged" it somewhat. I made a joke of it and said she should ensure she practice safe ....... ! Imagine how I felt when I put the phone down and googled it !

James is 16 and studying for his GCSEs, when he's not on the phone to his girl friend! He's a lovely footballer, much better than I was but I can' t tell him; I just can't!

Arrivederci Roma...

I am a mad Liverpool fan and in 1977 (aged 17) I "bunked off" school to go to Rome with mates to watch the once again mighty Reds beat Borussia Moenchengladback (try saying that with five Peroni's inside you!) 3 - 1 in the Coppa Finale Dei Campioni of the Union Europeene De Football Associational. I was at boarding school at the time; parents not impressed, school furious, it was not pretty when I got back I can tell you but worth the pain! "We won it five times, in Istanbul we won it five times"
