Stuart Payne, vice president UK & Ireland underwriting service centre manager, Chubb Insurance

Chose insurance…

Whilst many people seem to ‘fall into’ insurance, I actively chose a career in insurance. After graduating from Leeds University, I began my career at Thomas Howell Selfe & Co in Hanley, Stoke on Trent, in 1992, where I was given the best start possible and owe a great deal of gratitude. I became one of the youngest qualified loss adjusters in 1998.

Car fanatic…

I have more than a keen interest in cars and built my first one when I was sixteen. It was a version of a Mini Cooper and I have loved cars ever since. My love for cars seems to have caught on as my two very young daughters know who Lewis Hamilton is!

Life saver…

When I was kayaking in Wales I came across a man who was having difficulties swimming and started drowning. I jumped in and pulled him to safety, fortunately saving his life before it was too late.

Sports personality…

I love all sports and my claim to fame is that I once appeared on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year! Admittedly it was in the background of a video clip of the West Indies cricket team on tour and I was a ball boy at Edgbaston Cricket Club.

Greatest hero…

My greatest hero is my father, who sadly passed away five years ago. His influence on my life was immense and not a day goes past whereby I subconsciously make reference to him. My only regret is that he never had the chance to meet all of his five beautiful grandchildren.
