Acquisitive virtual insurer the Folgate Partnership has acquired Trinity Insurance Advisers Ltd, of Halifax, Yorkshire.

The deal is Folgate's 33rd acquisition.

Trinity controls gross written premiums totalling about £10m of commercial and attached personal lines business.

Entering Folgate's Yorkshire stable, it will join SMG, which was Folgate's first broker acquisition in April 2002, RBR, Hainsworth Watts and Cowburn.

Folgate's businesses in Yorkshire will control premiums totalling about £55m and the group controls at least £300m.

Chairman Chris Hodgson and managing director Ray Crabtree will continue to lead their staff of 28 and the business will stay in its existing premises in Halifax although the brand will change to Folgate Trinity Risk Solutions.

Crabtree said: "We have been looking for the right way to take the next step up in growing our business for several years, and Folgate will provide career opportunities and training for our staff as well as the financial support, products and facilities we need to drive our business forward."

Folgate executive chairman Peter Cullum said: "Adding the strength of Trinity to our other Yorkshire brokers will make for a formidable regional presence, and I am confident that the business will grow rapidly, both through focused sales and marketing, and further acquisitions."
