General Legal Protection (GLP) has joined calls for better motorcycle safety in the UK. It is staging the first 'National Motorcycle Safety Week' to raise awareness, as well as releasing a safety booklet for riders.

This comes at an opportune time as, not only are the number of claims increasing, but unfortunately so are the casualties. Recent government statistics show that 20 people are seriously injured or killed in motorbike accidents every day.

Managing director Andre Scruton said GLP is taking this role because: "In our industry we see first hand the results of motorcycle accidents and you would have to be a robot for it not to affect you."

GLP offers a 'Gold Rider' product to motorcyclists - a specialist personal accident policy which "looks after the biker and the bike following a road traffic accident".
