A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry

Broker

Broker Network
Broker Network has promoted director of insurer relations Mark Wood to managing director. Wood also joins the board of Broker Network Holdings.

In other management changes Martyn Denney, who heads up broker services, has been promoted to director of Broker Network London markets, the London broking operation for members.

Elizabeth Mills has also been promoted to director. Mills is responsible for the HR, training and compliance service to members and across the Broker Network group.

Glencairn
Glencairn has appointed Mark Palmer and Gary Tyler within its specialist risk division.

Palmer, who will be an associate partner, will be involved in production and placement of political risk and trade credit transactions. He joins from HSBC Insurance Brokers, where he was a producing broker in the political risks insurance division.

Tyler, who joins from Aon, will work alongside recently appointed Darren Norris to further strengthen the division's marine cargo initiative.

Davis Corporate Risks
Davis Corporate Risks has appointed Andy Hancock as key account manager at its head office in Newmarket.

Hancock previously headed a large direct sales and customer relationship management team at Norwich Union Healthcare.

Belmont
Sevenoaks-based broker and risk manager Belmont International has promoted John Savidge and Christine Steel to associate directors.

Both will develop their existing roles at Belmont. Savidge is responsible for Lloyd's market liaison and fleet insurance in the company's niche passenger transport and haulage sectors, while Steel manages corporate client programmes in the waste to energy/renewable energy, bus and coach, train and aviation sectors.

Hastings
Hastings has appointed David Pye as non-executive director.

Pye previously ran the general insurance business of Pearl Assurance before working at London and Edinburgh as managing director of commercial lines. He is currently a director of various Creechurch companies.

Heath Lambert
Heath Lambert has appointed Jean-Michel Lewis as a director within its reinsurance division. Lewis was previously a partner at Jardine Lloyd Thompson.

Nigel Earle has also been promoted to director in the same division.

FMW
Victoria Shanks has been appointed account handler within FMW's logistics and transportation team.

Shanks joins from Marsh, where she was a commercial account handler.

Vicki McDade has also been appointed as a junior claims handler. She was previously a credit administrator at Vincent Sherman Associates.

James Hampde
James Hampden has appointed Kevin Collins as managing director.

Collins joins from Euclidian.

Insurer

Fusion
Fusion has promoted Martin Sidebottom to risk control surveyor. He was previously a trainee at the company.

Prior to joining Fusion Sidebottom worked for NFU and AXA Sun Life.

Hiscox
Ed Cruttenden will take control of Hiscox's global markets professional indemnity (PI) account at Lloyd's from January 2006.

Cruttenden, a PI underwriter with Hiscox since 1998, replaces Nick Ward, who will assume the new role of global market development underwriter in the US.

Cruttenden has been Ward's deputy on the PI team for the last seven years.

Excel Law
Excel Law has made the following appointments:

  • Philip Moss as general manager. Moss has previously held management roles at the AA, Carole Nash and Swinton.

  • Steve Gomes and Nigel Wardle as area sales managers.
  • Gomes, who joins from Giles, will manage broker relationships across East England as well as the firm's marketing strategy.

    Wardle, who joins from MSL, will develop brokerrelationships for North West England.

    Vizards Tweedie
    Anthony Rose, formerly of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert and Charles Russell, has joined Vizards Tweedie as a consultant. Rose specialises in insurance broking law.

    Assurant Solutions
    Assurant Solutions has appointed James Tomlin as risk manager and Sharon Coggins as chief operations accountant.

    Tomlin joins from Allianz Cornhill, where he was risk analyst.

    Coggins joins from Hiscox, where she recently held a project management role.

    Kingsdowne
    Kingsdowne Consulting has added claims consultancy to its range of services with the appointment of Chris Mocock as claims director.

    Mocock was previously a director at Cunningham Lindsey for 10 years in the Middle East, and is also a former colleague of Kingsdowne managing director Nick Morrall at Toplis & Harding.

    Premium Credit
    Premium Credit has appointed Lynn Denby as business manager for South West England.

    Denby joins from Singer & Friedlander Insurance Finance, where she was account manager.

    Sectornet
    Sectornet has promoted Steve Tillyer from account manager to the company-wide role of core account group manager.

    Tillyer first joined Sectornet in 1988.

    Patrick Mina
    Marsh has appointed UK chief executive of client and market services Patrick Mina to the newly-created role of head of international client and market services (CMS).

    Mina will identify and deliver a best practice servicing model for Marsh across the Europe/Middle East and the international speciality operations regions.

    He will also lead the company's servicing location strategy to accelerate service and efficiency improvements. He will retain direct responsibility for CMS in the UK.

    Bruce Carnegie-Brown, Marsh president and chief executive of Marsh's Europe/ Middle East operations, said: "Patrick has been instrumental in driving Marsh's focus on service and efficiency improvement while dramatically improving client service levels. I am confident that he will be just as successful in this role".

    Outside of work Mina's hobbies include wine tasting and spending time and travelling with his family.
