Only medical reports sourced from MedCo will be accepted as evidence in support of whiplash claims

The government is to set up a medical reporting portal for whiplash claims, which will go live on 1 April 2015.

The new portal, called MedCo, was announced by Secretary of State for Justice Chris Grayling (pictured) at today’s ABI Motor Conference.

Grayling announced the initiative as part of a package of measures to tackle whiplash claims, which included a new whiplash claims task force.

From the go-live date in April, only medical reports sourced through MedCo will be accepted as evidence in support of whiplash claims.

MedCo will require medical experts submitting reports to it to be accredited. Experts wil be invited to register with the new system from January 2015, and wil then be given time to gan their accreditation.

Experts who are unable or unwilling to obtain accreditation by the deadline will have their details removed from the MedCo system, and they will only be able to re-register once they have become accredited.
