Abbey National has issued a set of guidelines for holidaymakers to ensure any travel insurance claim made this summer is hassle-free.

While around 90% of travellers now regularly take out insurance cover, thousands of claims are held up each year. Many travellers forget to do basic things such as reading their policy wording or even taking a copy of the policy with them on holiday.

Abbey is also advising customers to ensure that they report thefts to police, keep valuables in a safe and contact their medical assistance company as soon as someone is hospitalised.
