HNW cyber start up Rubica started up by British policeman wins funding to expand

High net worth (HNW) cyber start up Rubica will insure wealthy people in the US from data leaks, with protection being offered up to $1m.

In a sign of how rapidly the cyber market is evolving, the niche start up, backed by investors including the accelerator run by Uber co-founder Garrett Camp, will become one of the first cyber products to be offered specifically for individuals.

“There’s a lot of innovation in cyber security right now and none of it has really been offered to the consumer,” said founder Roderick Jones, according to the Financial Times. “It doesn’t matter if you are very wealthy, you can’t go and hire the right security people.”

Rubica has struck a deal wtih Pure insurance group to cover the private clients. Rubica started up to cover Silicon Valley tech people aware of the cyber dangers, but has now expanded to include Wall Street businessmen, politicians and celebrities.
