Tony Howe is standing down from his role as deputy chairman of the Association of Insurance Intermediaries and Brokers (Aiib).

Howe has decided not to stand for re-election and will be replaced at the association's AGM on June 29.

Howe, who has been with the association since it formed one and a half years ago, wishes to devote more time to other business interests.

He said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. My main concern was to fend off the idea of general insurance being given overly heavy regulation and possibly coming under the FSA.

"Things are moving in the right direction and I hope the GISC will continue work in the interests of consumers and the industry alike."

Howe's other projects include launching a new after-the-event-legal expenses policy with Collegiate, and a second undisclosed venture.
