Category 4 hurricane expected to follow coast but not on land

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said Category 4 hurricane Earl would stay off the coast from North Carolina to New England, but coastal towns were put on hurricane watch Reuters reports.

"A small error of 100 miles in the wrong direction could be a huge impact difference," NHC director Bill Read said. "Even a minor shift back to the west could bring impacts to portions of the coastline from the mid-Atlantic northwards."
