Insolvent insurer Independent Insurance has offered its staff £1,000 to stay with the company until all outstanding business is completed.

The liquidator Pricewaterhousecoopers (PWC) confirmed the bonus would be paid to loyal staff. About 500 staff are being retained to deal with the company's run-off business.

“This bonus is a recognition of loyalty among our high-quality staff. We want to retain as many remaining employees to oversee the run-off business,” said a PWC spokeswoman.

Last week PWC confirmed that it was taking on staff to deal with claims and other run-off matters. It is understood that the liquidator is finding it difficult to retain staff for the run-off business as it is seen as a short-term deal.
