Duncan Scott joins underwriting agency from rival

Giles-owned underwriting agency Ink has hired ex-Oval executive Duncan Scott as commercial director.

Scott has 18 years’ experience in the MGA sector. Before joining Ink, he was responsible for developing Oval’s underwriting business and setting up Vela Underwriting.

Before this, he headed up Elite Underwriting, part of Layton Blackham Group, where he was operations director and responsible for the successful transition of the business into Bluefin.

Giles managing director of underwriting and wholesale Bernard Mageean said: “Duncan will be a valuable asset to our business. He has a reputation in the sector for developing strong underwriting led propositions that in turn have realized a long record of profitable return.”

Scott added: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Brendan [McManus, Giles chief executive] and Bernard who are building an exciting proposition that is very much aligned to my core skills and principles.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
