Troubled cybermediary Inspop has confirmed that it is in talks with a potential purchaser.

Inspop's managing director, Sara Murray, said the company was talking to a “large internet site without its own insurance offering”. She added that the outcome of the talks would be known in the next four to six weeks.

Murray admitted that although Inspop had recently announced a number of tie-ups with insurers, things had moved slower than she had anticipated. “A lot of insurance companies have really dragged their feet,” she said.

Inspop launched last July with a £5m advertising campaign using a take-off of the Arnold Scharzennegger film, Terminator. Ads were also run in national and regional media.

But the company was slated as not all its services were up and running and the site could not offer motor quotes.
