Amlin and Aviva take top two places in carbon table

Amlin is Britain’s greenest major company with Aviva in second place, according to a new league table.

The ET UK 100 Carbon Ranking, put together by the Environmental Investment Organisation (EIO), shows that the two insurers have the ratio of carbon emissions to turnover out of the UK’s top 100 companies.

On this measure of so called carbon intensity, Amlin emits 1.21m tonnes of carbon dioxide per $m of turnover. In second place in the rankings is Aviva which has a carbon intensity score of 1.36.

Amlin is also the lowest total emitter, pumping out a total of 2.464m tonnes of greenhouse gases. The second lowest emitter was Admiral, which came in 38th place in the carbon intensity league table.

Lloyd’s Banking Group is at seventh place in the carbon intensity league table and Royal Bank of Scotland is in 10th.

EIO operational director Sam Gill said RSA’s and Willis’ relatively low rankings, 75th and 94th respectively, reflected two companies' failure to supply sufficient data to work out their carbon intensity.

The top 100 companies were chosen on the basis of their market capitalisation on September 1st, 2010.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
