MPs roll up for cannabis probe

A curious tale from the corridors of power.

The government is to investigate what insurance cover is offered to landlords who fall victim to cannabis farming in their properties.

It seems innocent homeowners have been left to pick up the cost of repairing their properties after they were transformed by drug barons.

The crooks rig up lights to heat the plant, override the electricity meter and fit a system of transporting water from one room to another.

Insurers have said homeowners cannot claim until someone is caught, according to Sian James, MP for Swansea East.

Home Office minister Vernon Coaker said: “This matter has not been raised with me before, but I shall look into it.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
