Robin Phipps, executive director for UK business operations at Legal & General, has announced his plans to retire and his intention to stand down from the board of Legal & General on 13 July 2007.

Sir Rob Margetts, Legal & General's chairman, said: "During a distinguished 25 year career, Robin has been a major part of the extraordinary success of Legal & General. He has made an outstanding contribution serving as a Board Director for the last 11 years, and been instrumental in building Legal & General's UK business into one of the country's leading providers of protection, annuity and savings products."

Executive directors, John Pollock and Kate Avery, will continue in their existing UK business management roles with responsibility for protection & annuities and wealth management respectively, reporting directly to group chief executive, Tim Breedon.

Breedon commented: "We wish Robin a happy retirement. He can leave us confident that the realigned business structure that he recently helped put in place, will provide the right model and the depth of experience at board level to take the business forward."
