Ex-Marsh US casualty placement VP Sally Newby becomes assistant vice president, excess casualty at Liberty

Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), a division of global insurer Liberty Mutual Group, has appointed Sally Newby to its Casualty unit.

Newby, who will be based in Liberty’s Minster Court office, London, will take on the role of Assistant Vice President, Excess Casualty, focusing on the London Market.

Reporting to Nick Mortimer, Liberty’s London Casualty Manager, Newby has extensive experience in the casualty arena in both broking and underwriting roles. She joins from Marsh where she was Vice President within US Casualty Placement, broking complex US liability business into the London Market. Prior to her career with Marsh, Newby held roles at Swiss Re and Winterthur International.

Commenting on her appointment, Liberty International Underwriters’ Chief Executive Officer, Sean Rocks, said: “Sally Newby has proven experience in the casualty arena on both the broking and underwriting side. Her appointment, following on from the recent announcement of Jonathan Powell joining as casualty underwriter in our Bristol office, further underlines our commitment to offer market leading service in this class of business.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
