Gerard van Loon to head up LIU’s Continental European market division

Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) has announced the appointment of Gerard van Loon to the new position of Managing Director, Continental European operations.

In a statement Liberty said that Van Loon will be responsible for developing and implementing the overall strategic direction of LIU’s specialty lines business in its continental European branches as well as continuing to manage the London based D&O and Financial Institutions product lines. He has also been appointed to the Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe board in London.

Van Loon will report to Sean Rocks, LIU’s Chief Executive Officer in Europe. He joined Liberty in 2001 as a D&O Underwriting Manager and was latterly Senior Vice President for D&O and Financial Institutions. Prior to Liberty, he held a variety of underwriting roles with AXA and UAP.
