Former Arch European boss to oversee Lloyd's operation

Liberty Syndicate Management Limited has appointed Nick Metcalf as its new chief executive.

Metcalf joins Liberty Syndicates from Arch Insurance Group, where he had been director of their European operations since 2004.

Liberty Mutual Group Chairman, President and CEO Edmund F. Kelly said: “Over the past two years, the Lloyd’s market has experienced record levels of capacity and underwriting return on equity. This strong performance reinforces the importance of Liberty Mutual’s presence at Lloyd’s and our Syndicates’ adherence to underwriting discipline."

Metcalf said: “Liberty Syndicates is a market leader at Lloyd’s and I am very much looking forward to working with both the team there and the rest of the Liberty Mutual Group to take the business forward.”

Liberty Syndicates offers five specialty lines of business, including property, casualty, London market reinsurance and contigent lines. It has a capacity of £917 million.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
