Former Liberty COO join managing agency Pembroke

Pembroke Managing Agency has appointed Mark Butterworth, as managing director. Butterworth was formerly chief operating officer of Liberty Syndicate.

Pembroke said Butterworth's main responsibility would be the further development of the managing agency, building on Pembroke’s work with Chaucer Syndicates to launch the agency in March 2007.

He replaces David Watson, interim managing director, who returns to his Third Party Syndicates role at Chaucer.

Mark Wheeler, underwriting director of Pembroke, commented: “The appointment is a further critical step towards building a leading independent managing agency at Lloyd’s. Mark’s strong operational capabilities, most recently gained in the Lloyd’s market and previously within the UK financial services sector, will bring immense benefit to Pembroke.”

Butterworth said:: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join Pembroke, which has worked hard to build its position in the Lloyd’s market since launch in March 2007. I look forward to working with the Pembroke team to develop a market leading business.”
