Liquidators Dan Schwarzmann and Nicholas Reed of Pricewaterhouse Coopers have been appointed by the High Court to start proceedings over travel intermediary Whiteley Insurance Consultants.
The appointment was made in support of a public interest winding-up petition, presented by the FSA.
The FSA alleges that Whiteley was putting consumers at risk by effecting contracts of insurance as a principal without authorisation prior to 14 January 2005 and in breach of its regulatory permissions from the 14 January by selling insurance policies that were not underwritten by an authorised insurer.
The firm also trades as Kingfisher Travel Insurance and Kingfisher Insurance Services.
