Tracknet.co.uk and Vascotrack.com have created a system that they claim can track goods to within ten metres anywhere in the world.
The Orbcomm Low Earth Orbit Satellite Network and Tracknet system will allow customers to track their goods via an internet-enabled personal computer.
A Vascotrack beacon is attached to the item, with all wiring and antennae hidden from view. It transmits information on the location of the item plus cargo temperature, vehicle speed, engine hours and fire and security data.
Vascotrack technical sales director David Hosking said the product would interest insurance underwriters who needed to track high value and vulnerable cargoes.
