Mapfre Global Risks has hired Andrew Malcolm (pictured) as a senior energy underwriter in London.

He will report to UK director Greg Harris

He previously worked at rival insurer XL, where he was head of international oil and gas. He has also held underwriting roles at Swiss Re and AIG.

In his new role at Mapfre Malcolm will build a portfolio of international onshore oil and gas business within the London market.

Mapfre Global Risks (MGR) International chief markets officer Chris Smith said: “Andrew’s hire is part of our specialty lines strategy for London, developing international portfolios of business in specific areas.

“This is a key aspect of the plan to grow the MGR portfolio, with international business expected to grow to 25% of gross written premiums by 2018 from 17% today.”

He added: “MGR is strong in energy elsewhere and this is one of the first steps to providing a strong presence in this market in London.

“To this end Andrew is a great addition to our specialist London underwriting team, with considerable oil and gas experience and a strong reputation in the market.”

Malcolm said: “I look forward to playing my part in supporting MGR’s dynamic international growth strategy.”
