COO takes helm to coordinate growth in the region

Marsh has appointed its UK chief operating officer, John Nicholson, to be Chairman of its Scottish operations.

Nicholson will have overall responsibility for Marsh’s offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, where he will be based.

Mr Nicholson’s role will include stewardship responsibilities for the firm’s Scottish client base, which ranges from mid-market businesses to Scottish blue-chip companies as well as international organisations with Scottish interests.

Marsh has 200 colleagues engaged in insurance broking, risk advisory and claims services across its Scottish operations, and has a strong market position in the professional services sector, including lawyers, accountants, architects and surveyors, the public sector, the oil and gas industry, food and beverage, and real estate and construction.

Martin South, CEO of Marsh UK, said: “I am delighted that John has accepted this senior client-facing and sales role in Scotland. His exceptional experience, coupled with his incisive understanding of even the most complex risk issues, will benefit Scottish clients and colleagues alike and enable Marsh to capitalise on the vibrancy of the Scottish economy.”

Nicholson will remain a director of Marsh and a member of its Audit and Risk Committees. He has worked for Marsh for over 10 years in various senior management positions and has worked as an insurance broker and risk adviser for over 35 years.

He said: “After three years of commuting to London, I am excited to be returning both to my home base of Scotland and also to a role where I can work so closely with our clients and prospects. I am looking forward to ensuring that they have access to the very best that Marsh has to offer to help manage and finance their business risks more effectively.”
