50 staff set to be transferred

Marsh is pulling its mobile phone insurance scheme following a review of the business.

The broker will wind down the claims administration side of its mobile phone scheme over the next six months after deciding it was not an important part of the business.

Mobile phone networks, including O2, will now begin tenders to find new partners for their insurance contracts.

Up to 50 staff at the broker’s Witham office could transfer from Marsh once a new provider is found.

A spokesman for Marsh said: "Marsh has recently undertaken a strategic review of its mobile phone insurance scheme business. From this review, it has concluded that this business is not core to its principal activities as a leading insurance broker and risk adviser in the UK.

"As a consequence of this decision, Marsh is conducting an orderly wind down of its mobile phone insurance scheme contracts over the next six months.

"At the end of this process we hope that the approximately 50 positions affected by this decision will be able to be transferred to new operators under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) (TUPE) Regulations.”

He added: "Marsh, and its sister companies, remain committed to retaining a presence in Witham."
