Covéa Insurance has appointed Tony Matthias to head up its small business unit.

Matthias, who has been appointed to fill the newly created role of Small Business Trading Underwriting Manager, was previously programme manager at the Electrical Contractors Insurance Company.

Prior to joining ECIC, he was head of sales at Oval’s managing general agency Vela.

In his new role, he will oversee the company’s small business e-trading efforts. Speaking about the appointment, Covéa senior manager for small business Tim Grant said Matthias’ experience would aid the company’s ‘complete refres’ of its small business e-trade proposition.

He said: “The next twelve months, in conjunction with our colleagues at Sterling, our entire e-trading proposition will be overhauled to ensure we have the people, products and electronic trading capability to meet the needs of our broker partners and their customers.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
