Travel insurer appoints managing director.

Travel intermediary Insure and Go has appointed a new managing director as it seeks to expand over the next 12 months.

Gary Lockett will replace Perry Wilson, the firm’s co-founder and managing director since its launch in 2000.

Last December, the FSA banned James Richardson, former chief executive of Insure and Go, from “performing significant influence functions in relation to any regulated activity”.

Richardson, who had left the company before the ruling after being injured in an accident, had attempted to mislead the FSA over a tax scheme. The watchdog also found he had not been candid in his dealings with Insure and Go’s former auditors.

At the time, the FSA said it was not pursuing any disciplinary action against Insure and Go and accepted that no customers had suffered as a result of Richardson’s misconduct.

Lockett, who has spent the past four years working in a number of consultative roles for both insurance intermediaries and law firms, said: “Over the past eight years Insure and Go has established itself as the UK’s leading direct travel insurance firm, with a strong brand identity, superb value products and a reputation for excellent customer service.

“We have exciting plans for the coming months and years, and I am looking forward to the challenge of delivering these and making the company even more successful than it already is.”

Wilson, who will be retained as a consultant, said: “Gary is a first-class candidate. I’m very confident he is the right person to lead Insure and Go as we seek to fulfil our ambitions for the company.”
