Simon Stonehouse to lead London Marine Market Committee on representation and education issues

Simon Stonehouse, hull underwriter at Brit Insurance, has been elected chairman of the Joint Hull Committee (JHC), the body that represents the interests of the London underwriting community on marine hull issues.

Stonehouse succeeds Peter McIntosh, senior underwriter of Ark Syndicate Management Limited, who will step down from the chairman’s position, which he has held for over three years. McIntosh will continue to be a member of the JHC.

Stonehouse plans to concentrate on ensuring proper representation of marine hull issues on the London market agenda through an increasingly proactive and cooperative liaison with the international marine community. He also seeks to address the marine claims and other processes to improve the service the London marine market can offer.

He said: “I am aiming to raise the profile of the London marine market whilst at the same time improving the services currently provided for our constituents, such as a wider and more tailored programme of educational briefings and seminars and more frequent and relevant provision of information.”

Peter McIntosh, outgoing chairman of JHC, said: “The work of the JHC is both challenging and rewarding. I feel confident in handing over the Chair to Simon, whose knowledge of the issues and the people, and whose passion for the business will prove a great asset to the market we serve.”
