Overnight estimates of the impact of Hurricane Frances put potential damages at in excess of £2bn.
Insured damages from Hurricane Charley, which hit Florida on 13 August, are set to be less than £7bn, according to the latest estimates.
Meanwhile experts are predicting that another hurricane will follow in the wake of Frances imminently.
